A Call for All World Travelers

Travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on,
deep and permanent, in the ideas of living. --Miriam Beard

Well friends if you remember a couple months ago I mentioned I was going to be traveling to Egypt at the end of the summer for an international pharmacy conference. In preparation for my trip I have been trying to set up ways to communicate with my loved ones back home while I am away. I heard about Google Voice as well as Skype. I do have an iPhone and plan on taking it with me and using in Airplane mode. I have been experimenting with both so far and this is what I have found....

Google Voice
In airplane mode connected to WiFi, I have been able to send text messages, but have yet to figure out how to receive a call or voicemail without switching back to my service. One of the reasons I like this application is the fact I have a different phone number and landlines or technological challenged individuals could use to call me or leave a message.

Has anybody had any experience with this application? Suggestions?

Skype
In airplane mode connected to WiFi as well, I have been able to send messages as well as make calls. This seems like a logical solution, but as always I like to know all my options.

Also any helpful travel suggestions y'all have picked up along the way are more than welcome!

I hope y'all are having a wonderful week!

Prayer Warriors Needed

Alright friends I have a prayer request. For those of you who aren't from Eastern New Mexico or small towns across the nation let me fill you in a little on how we do. When there is a sports team in the state tournament, stores shut down, lights shut off, & the town goes to state to cheer them on. When ever somebody gets married you reserve an extra 200 seats, just for the hometowners. And y'all whenever a tragedy strikes family, friends, or neighbors.... We pray! We pray and we get our prayer chains working to help out whoever it is in need. Friends, this is when I need your help!

There is a sweet girl from a neighboring town of my hometown that was in a terrible boating accident Memorial Day weekend. Miss Shaina is still in ICU fighting for her life and touching people's lives all across the states of New Mexico and Texas. She has a facebook page set up under "Shainas Prayer Warriors" that updates everybody on her current condition and has 8700+ members that are currently praying for her.

So I ask of you to take a little time out of your hectic day to say a little prayer for her, or take some time to think about her and her loved ones. From personally having a close friend in a similar situation I know the pain and heart ache her loved ones are enduring. I ask you to pray for strength and faith for all those affected by this terrible tragedy. The power of Prayer is a wonderful thing! So, lets get together friends and help out a family in need.

Summer Time Recap

It's a smile, it's a kiss, it's a sip of wine..... IT'S SUMMER TIME!
-Kenny Chesney

Ladies and Gents....I apologize for being MIA lately, but sh*t has been crazy! So let’s do a “little” recap on all the happenings. I don’t exactly remember where I left y’all off at, but the last few weeks of school included all kind of fun activities!
Sand volleyball tournament with all the different north campus schools (Pharmacy, Nursing, Med, Law, PT/OT, etc.)
Kickball tournament with the different Pharmacy classes
Got to see Mr. Paul Moya give another speech and yes this one made me cry again
Watched my darling cousin get 3rd in the State Softball tournament. Whooohoooo go MVCS!
Had a day of pampering including a massage, hair appointment, and pedicure. (Don’t judge me it was well deserved after finals! Or at least that is what I told myself.)
Watched my dear friend Ms. Nascar graduate from Pharmacy school! Let me tell you how cool that was. It was so inspiration to see the commencement ceremonies and know that in 2 short years I will be there as well! I cannot wait!! Y’all start the countdown for me :)
Finally, I left the big city in the rear view mirror and headed out to the ranch for my summer rotation! Well I had to do that twice (yes you are about to hear a blonde moment). So I get all my junk, which consists of clothes baskets packed full of clothes (I HATE PACKING!!), loaded up and get 60 miles out of town, when I suddenly remember that I forgot my Intern license. For those of you who aren’t familiar with pharmacy school rotations, I have 4 weeks, 160 hours, of free work and I can’t do the rotation without my license. So smart ‘ol me had to make a lovely U-turn and drive an extra 120 miles to get my license. Well despite the little tour, I had a lovely drive. My rotation went great and I am glad to say all 4 weeks of it passed by at lightning speed! I am officially ready for my summer to start!! Whoohooo :)
During my rotation I was fortunate enough to spend the 4 weeks with my father's parents at out at the ranch and I thoroughly enjoyed that!
After my rotation was over I was supposed to go camping with my mother's side of the family, but unfortunately due to all the fires going on we had to cancel the trip. Y'all make sure and keep all the men and women fighting these fires (Whitewater-Baldy [it is the biggest in state history, google it!] and Little Bear) in your prayers! They certainly deserve a big thanks from all of us!!
Well I think I recapped enough of what y'all missed. I apologize for missing out on all those pictures, but once I get back to civilization I will work better on this blog thing. In the mean time, I hope y'all are just having the best summer! Enjoy every single bit of it :)
