The Past Few Weeks

Y'all heard how crazy life has been, but man oh man it sure has been great as well! After I got all moved out, I spent a few days at home with some good 'ol R&R. In between my resting and relaxation I was able to shoot my new gun, make a pumpkin pie, and see my beautiful friend, Lovely Country Mess. It was pure bliss!

A few of my favorite shots from my trip back home.

True to my nature I ended up leaving home later than I had expected and ended up checking my mail when I had got back into town around 11 pm. Well folks I think I might just start doing that from now on because I seem to always get good news when I do that. Remember what happened last time? This time I actually received another letter from a soldier. This letter was completely unexpected and awesome. My soldier has been putting all of my letters and care packages in the aid station to share with the other soldiers. Turns out the soldier that is taking his spot as lead physician has been seeing them and wanted to write a letter to thank me. How sweet is that? It completely made my day. It is amazing how much one simple gesture can completely change your day!

Next thing on the list was Mermaid Barbie's bachelorette party! Now a little background on Mermaid Barbie: She just graduated pharmacy school and is one of the most sweetest, genuine, caring people I know. I met her the summer before I started pharmacy school. She was doing her first rotation at Roden Smith Pharmacy and I was shadowing the pharmacist. We bonded over Bahama Bucks dates and late night movies with Baylor Babe (another one of my absolute favorites)! Anyways, she is getting married June 15 so before everybody left town, we had a night to celebrate her. As you can tell from the picture below, we all wore wigs and had a blast! FYI if anyone you know is getting married, I definitely recommend having some wigy fun :)

The beautiful bride and a few of my other favorites!

The next couple days were spent in the classroom getting my concealed carry handgun license. So y'all better watch out, because homegirl here qualified 100% on the shooting portion!

After the fun was over, the rest of the week was spent sorting and packing and organizing my clothes. Gosh this is not a fun task! How is a girl supposed to fit all her clothes and essentials in a compact car to live out of for a year? Well I will just tell you it is not fun!

Until next time my lovelies!

Favorite SB Commercial

I hope by now everybody has recovered from their Super Bowl coma. I still think that the Monday after the SB should be a national holiday. I mean after a day spent full of eating, relaxing and celebrating it is so unfair to make you wake up bright and early and go to class first thing in the morning. Anyways, how was yall's SB Sunday? We had some friends over and had entirely wayyyy to much food. Needless to say it was great, oh and the Ravens won (not my typical team, but that was who I was rooting for Sunday.)

Now lets get down to brass tacks here, how about them commercials?!?! What did y'all think? What were your favorites? I am sure y'all have all seen this, but incase you haven't, check it out! This was Dodge's Super Bowl Commercial "So God made a farmer.", and also my favorite one!

Immediately following the airing of the commercial my facebook newsfeed blew up with posts and reposts of the video. How great is it that I have so many friends and family members advocating for the agricultural industry. I think in today's society it is so easily overlooked how much that industry is the backbone of our great country. I couldn't think of a better platform to talk about agriculture and all the hard work our farmers, ranchers, and their families put in day in and day out than in front of millions of Americans and other countries across the world. You have read before about how people here in the city view country livin' and how so much of that outlook is skewed. So if you have a few free minutes, take the time to watch the video and see how much farmers and ranchers really put in day in and day out. All of these sacrifices are made so that we can have that fresh gallon of milk in the fridge or that oh so favorite blue sweater. If you really like it, comment, share and help advocate agriculture babyyyy :)

Have a great day lovelies!

Update on My Life

As I am sure most of y'all have picked up on, I have been super busy since we last talked! These past few weeks/weekends have been super hectic! To start off where we finished last time, the pledging went great with My Little B great! She looked pretty stinking awesome with her feather headdress as you can see...

Geriatrics day in lab! I got to be a little old lady
with my Vaseline covered glasses & sling!

Little B & I

You guys missed out on the happiest week of the year for most of my life... State Fair! My parents came into town the first weekend of the fair, along with my entire Mother's side, part of my Father's side and friends from across the state! It was a terrific weekend to say the least. A much deserved weekend of familiarity! As for results my family had a great year in the steer show! Between three kids and five steers they had 3 class winners, 2 second place calves, 2 breed champions, and 1 reserve breed champion! Whew what a great year!

Champion Simmental
Champion Angus!
Oh and we also had 2 dang awful tests this past week, so I was not a fan of that cutting into my fair time! Finally, on to this past weekend. Friday after our last test, Laker Lover, Fratty Frat and I left to Oklahoma to meet up with Laker Lover's dad, uncle and my brother! Saturday morning we started out with breakfast at Laker Lover's mother's house, then off to tailgating we went. It was an absolute blast, just as expected! Towards the later part of the day we had a surprise visit from our friend, Nebraska. We went to undergrad with her and she is now at OSU (I know, don't hold it against her though! She doesn't know any better!) working on her PhD. Needless to say it was really great seeing her!

The game didn't exactly turn out to be how we (everybody, but brother) were expecting, but it was still a great trip! I could not of asked for a better weekend to finish off my awesome week! I hope everybody else's week/weekends have been just as great! I will work on keeping y'all more up to date on my life happenings.

A Farm Raised Education

Alright y'all I am fixing to do a little rantin' and ravin' so bear with me. I think I should start this out with the fact that I am not a big follower of politics, but this just stuck a nerve and well here we go...

In between classes today I was killing time like most other college students (on facebook) when I stumbled on an article. If y'all haven't seen this already take a look at it. Granted I have not researched much into the subject matter, but it is not looking good. Here is a little summary, but you can get the entire article by clicking here.

A proposal from the Obama administration to prevent children from doing farm chores has drawn plenty of criticism from rural-district members of Congress. But now it’s attracting barbs from farm kids themselves. The Department of Labor is poised to put the finishing touches on a rule that would apply child-labor laws to children working on family farms, prohibiting them from performing a list of jobs on their own families’ land. Under the rules, children under 18 could no longer work “in the storing, marketing and transporting of farm product raw materials.” “Prohibited places of employment,” a Department press release read, “would include country grain elevators, grain bins, silos, feed lots, stockyards, livestock exchanges and livestock auctions.” The new regulations, first proposed August 31 by Labor Secretary Hilda Solis, would also revoke the government’s approval of safety training and certification taught by independent groups like 4-H and FFA, replacing them instead with a 90-hour federal government training course.

Being raised in the country I would not of had it any other way. I think children of today's generation are going to be missing out on valuable educations if this proposal passes. A good work ethic and responsibility are two of the many lessons I learned growing up in the country and would NOT change it for the world. The many lessons I learned helped to develop me into the person I am today and helped me get to where I am at in my life today.

If you were to tell 9 year olds of today's generation that they had to wake up every morning to go out and work with their animals (usually for a couple hours), then feed them before it got too hot. After the animals were fed, they had to clean the pens and barns before they could start their day, how do you think they would respond? Probably not good is my guess. Well then you tell them you have to repeat the same process every night as well.

I can imagine there would be a lot of whining and arguing from the kids. I was raised this way and I am not going to lie, sometimes I really did not want to get out of bed to go feed the animals, but I did it because that was how I was raised. Many times the animals got fed before I ate dinner, this was just how things were. I treasure every one of my memories of being raised in the country and I would NOT of had it any other way. Not only did I develop a work ethic and a sense of responsibility, but I also developed manners and respect which seem to be lacking from today's generation.

I think that children should be expected to do much more than sit on their butt all day eating unhealthy food and playing video games. I was expected to take care of thousands of dollars worth of animals at a young age and put their well being ahead of mine most of the time and I turned out just fine, for the most part :).

Not only would this proposal affect on the agriculture industry as a whole, but also our youth's 4H and FFA programs as well. These student led organizations have developed some of the nation's finest leaders over the years would see a decrease in enrollment with this proposal. This is just another step of the way our nation is leaning in the wrong direction.

Well I have had a nice little rant and rave here, but I guess that is what happens when you are passionate about something. PLEASE read more about this proposal and spread the word to your friend's and family. Our nation's future in agriculture is in your hands.
