Friday F.U.N.

Our last semester of pharmacy school is filled with tests and LOTS of group work. Seriously it takes over your life with all the group meetings. Lucky for us, our main project, in public health we had to create a video raising awareness to a public health topic, so that was a nice change of pace anyways.

Immediately we started planning. Laker Lover, Miss Artesia, and I wanted to do a fun video. We decided to remake the Spice Girls song Wanna Be. For those of you who are not aware of the song you can check out the original here. Our version is kind of silly, but was a lot of fun to do. Oh and a BIG shout out to You I Am for his help with vocals and editing! Seriously y'all he is awesome, go check out his music. Oh and did I mention he is also in med school right now. He is a rockstar! I hope y'all enjoy it and get a laugh out of it this beautiful Friday!

Summer Time Recap

It's a smile, it's a kiss, it's a sip of wine..... IT'S SUMMER TIME!
-Kenny Chesney

Ladies and Gents....I apologize for being MIA lately, but sh*t has been crazy! So let’s do a “little” recap on all the happenings. I don’t exactly remember where I left y’all off at, but the last few weeks of school included all kind of fun activities!
Sand volleyball tournament with all the different north campus schools (Pharmacy, Nursing, Med, Law, PT/OT, etc.)
Kickball tournament with the different Pharmacy classes
Got to see Mr. Paul Moya give another speech and yes this one made me cry again
Watched my darling cousin get 3rd in the State Softball tournament. Whooohoooo go MVCS!
Had a day of pampering including a massage, hair appointment, and pedicure. (Don’t judge me it was well deserved after finals! Or at least that is what I told myself.)
Watched my dear friend Ms. Nascar graduate from Pharmacy school! Let me tell you how cool that was. It was so inspiration to see the commencement ceremonies and know that in 2 short years I will be there as well! I cannot wait!! Y’all start the countdown for me :)
Finally, I left the big city in the rear view mirror and headed out to the ranch for my summer rotation! Well I had to do that twice (yes you are about to hear a blonde moment). So I get all my junk, which consists of clothes baskets packed full of clothes (I HATE PACKING!!), loaded up and get 60 miles out of town, when I suddenly remember that I forgot my Intern license. For those of you who aren’t familiar with pharmacy school rotations, I have 4 weeks, 160 hours, of free work and I can’t do the rotation without my license. So smart ‘ol me had to make a lovely U-turn and drive an extra 120 miles to get my license. Well despite the little tour, I had a lovely drive. My rotation went great and I am glad to say all 4 weeks of it passed by at lightning speed! I am officially ready for my summer to start!! Whoohooo :)
During my rotation I was fortunate enough to spend the 4 weeks with my father's parents at out at the ranch and I thoroughly enjoyed that!
After my rotation was over I was supposed to go camping with my mother's side of the family, but unfortunately due to all the fires going on we had to cancel the trip. Y'all make sure and keep all the men and women fighting these fires (Whitewater-Baldy [it is the biggest in state history, google it!] and Little Bear) in your prayers! They certainly deserve a big thanks from all of us!!
Well I think I recapped enough of what y'all missed. I apologize for missing out on all those pictures, but once I get back to civilization I will work better on this blog thing. In the mean time, I hope y'all are just having the best summer! Enjoy every single bit of it :)

Now Go Be Awesome

Last night I had the privilege of listening to who I believe to be one of the most entertaining, best motivational speakers of our time, Paul Moya. Who is Paul Moya you might ask?!? Well let me tell you!

As described from his website,
"Paul is  a former National President of an organization with over 500,000 people, has been educated at one of the most prestigious business schools in the nation, and has received rave reviews while delivering speeches all over the world."
To sum it all up...he is awesome! I have had the lucky privilege to have known Paul for several years now and he is just as great, if not better, of a person in every day life as he is as a speaker.

During his presentation, Paul had his audience interacting the entire time laughing, joking and even crying at parts. Now I don't want to ruin the surprise for you if you ever get the chance to hear Paul speak (DO IT) but I will say his take home message is Now Go Be Awesome!

Lets think about that for a bit... Now Go Be Awesome. That simple phrase can be interpreted so many different ways and applied to virtually anything. Whether you are talking about that job promotion you have been wanting, leadership role in your favorite organization, or even getting up every morning to work out before work. Whatever it is you are doing, wherever you are at, and whoever you are with do NOT let anything hold you back! You are the sole person responsible for your happiness and success.... NOW GO BE AWESOME!

Paul does a terrific job inspiring anybody to do their best! I have only have the chance to hear him speak once, but I am sure he would do a great job with any age group talking on any subject! So if you haven't heard about Paul look him up! As I mentioned above you can contact him several ways:

You I Am Music

I think music in itself is healing. It's an explosive expression of humanity.
It's something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we're from,
everyone loves music.
--Billy Joel

This weekend was by far one of the funnest and busiest weekends I have had in a long time! As I get photos upload I will share some of the highlights from Kappa's Psi Last Province IX meeting and the Heat v. Thunder game, so stay tuned :)

Oh a side note I have a video I want to share with y'all. Some of my good friends have a friend in med school at UNM and also a really good rap artist. I encourage all of y'all to go check out his music, You I Am Music. Along with his other youtube videos, he recently made a music video remix with a group of his classmates to Chris Brown's song, Look At Me Now.

Their video was developed to raise money for a charity, One Hope Centro de Vida Health Center. You can learn more about it and donate by clicking here. This video has been extremely popular getting lots of attention, it was even shown on KOB-TV and mentioned on 93.3 KOB FM.

As I listened to the music and their lyrics I was amazed! They did a phenomenal job with it, and if you are interested in the medical field you will really appreciate it. Along with the other lyrics, there is a popular line, "I'm fresher than a pharm student." As you can imagine that is getting lots of interest as well, especially from the pharmacy students.

Now maybe it is just my inner gangsta coming out, but I loved the video and think that was just another one of the lines used to fit the beat. Also kudos to the guys rapping in the video, y'all were great! Now if I was talented enough to spit some lyrics I would love to film a rebuttal video, but until them keep up the good work! :) Best of luck with gathering donations y'all!
