Favorite SB Commercial

I hope by now everybody has recovered from their Super Bowl coma. I still think that the Monday after the SB should be a national holiday. I mean after a day spent full of eating, relaxing and celebrating it is so unfair to make you wake up bright and early and go to class first thing in the morning. Anyways, how was yall's SB Sunday? We had some friends over and had entirely wayyyy to much food. Needless to say it was great, oh and the Ravens won (not my typical team, but that was who I was rooting for Sunday.)

Now lets get down to brass tacks here, how about them commercials?!?! What did y'all think? What were your favorites? I am sure y'all have all seen this, but incase you haven't, check it out! This was Dodge's Super Bowl Commercial "So God made a farmer.", and also my favorite one!





Immediately following the airing of the commercial my facebook newsfeed blew up with posts and reposts of the video. How great is it that I have so many friends and family members advocating for the agricultural industry. I think in today's society it is so easily overlooked how much that industry is the backbone of our great country. I couldn't think of a better platform to talk about agriculture and all the hard work our farmers, ranchers, and their families put in day in and day out than in front of millions of Americans and other countries across the world. You have read before about how people here in the city view country livin' and how so much of that outlook is skewed. So if you have a few free minutes, take the time to watch the video and see how much farmers and ranchers really put in day in and day out. All of these sacrifices are made so that we can have that fresh gallon of milk in the fridge or that oh so favorite blue sweater. Prayer Warriors

A Call for All World Travelers

Well friends if you remember a couple months ago I mentioned I was going to be traveling to Egypt at the end of the summer for an international pharmacy conference. In preparation for my trip I have been trying to set up ways to communicate with my loved ones back home while I am away. I heard about Google Voice as well as Skype. I do have an iPhone and plan on taking it with me and using in Airplane mode. I have been experimenting with both so far and this is what I have found....


Google Voice
In airplane mode connected to WiFi, I have been able to send text messages, but have yet to figure out how to receive a call or voicemail without switching back to my service. One of the reasons I like this application is the fact I have a different phone number and landlines or technological challenged individuals could use to call me or leave a message.


Has anybody had any experience with this application? Suggestions?


Skype
In airplane mode connected to WiFi as well, I have been able to send messages as well as make calls. This seems like a logical solution, but as always I like to know all my options.


Also any helpful travel suggestions y'all have picked up along the way are more than welcome!

Prayer Warriors Needed

Alright friends I have a prayer request. For those of you who aren't from Eastern New Mexico or small towns across the nation let me fill you in a little on how we do. When there is a sports team in the state tournament, stores shut down, lights shut off, & the town goes to state to cheer them on. When ever somebody gets married you reserve an extra 200 seats, just for the hometowners. And y'all whenever a tragedy strikes family, friends, or neighbors.... We pray! We pray and we get our prayer chains working to help out whoever it is in need. Friends, this is when I need your help!

There is a sweet girl from a neighboring town of my hometown that was in a terrible boating accident Memorial Day weekend. Miss Shaina is still in ICU fighting for her life and touching people's lives all across the states of New Mexico and Texas. She has a facebook page set up under "Shainas Prayer Warriors" that updates everybody on her current condition and has 8700+ members that are currently praying for her.

So I ask of you to take a little time out of your hectic day to say a little prayer for her, or take some time to think about her and her loved ones. From personally having a close friend in a similar situation I know the pain and heart ache her loved ones are enduring. I ask you to pray for strength and faith for all those affected by this terrible tragedy. The power of Prayer is a wonderful thing! So, lets get together friends and help out a family in need.

A Farm Raised Education

Alright y'all I am fixing to do a little rantin' and ravin' so bear with me. I think I should start this out with the fact that I am not a big follower of politics, but this just stuck a nerve and well here we go...


In between classes today I was killing time like most other college students (on facebook) when I stumbled on an article. If y'all haven't seen this already take a look at it. Granted I have not researched much into the subject matter, but it is not looking good. Here is a little summary, but you can get the entire article by clicking here.

A proposal from the Obama administration to prevent children from doing farm chores has drawn plenty of criticism from rural-district members of Congress. But now it’s attracting barbs from farm kids themselves. The Department of Labor is poised to put the finishing touches on a rule that would apply child-labor laws to children working on family farms, prohibiting them from performing a list of jobs on their own families’ land. Under the rules, children under 18 could no longer work “in the storing, marketing and transporting of farm product raw materials.” “Prohibited places of employment,” a Department press release read, “would include country grain elevators, grain bins, silos, feed lots, stockyards, livestock exchanges and livestock auctions.” The new regulations, first proposed August 31 by Labor Secretary Hilda Solis, would also revoke the government’s approval of safety training and certification taught by independent groups like 4-H and FFA, replacing them instead with a 90-hour federal government training course.

Being raised in the country I would not of had it any other way. I think children of today's generation are going to be missing out on valuable educations if this proposal passes. A good work ethic and responsibility are two of the many lessons I learned growing up in the country and would NOT change it for the world. The many lessons I learned helped to develop me into the person I am today and helped me get to where I am at in my life today.


If you were to tell 9 year olds of today's generation that they had to wake up every morning to go out and work with their animals (usually for a couple hours), then feed them before it got too hot. After the animals were fed, they had to clean the pens and barns before they could start their day, how do you think they would respond? Probably not good is my guess. Well then you tell them you have to repeat the same process every night as well.


I can imagine there would be a lot of whining and arguing from the kids. I was raised this way and I am not going to lie, sometimes I really did not want to get out of bed to go feed the animals, but I did it because that was how I was raised. Many times the animals got fed before I ate dinner, this was just how things were. I treasure every one of my memories of being raised in the country and I would NOT of had it any other way. Not only did I develop a work ethic and a sense of responsibility, but I also developed manners and respect which seem to be lacking from today's generation.


I think that children should be expected to do much more than sit on their butt all day eating unhealthy food and playing video games. I was expected to take care of thousands of dollars worth of animals at a young age and put their well being ahead of mine most of the time and I turned out just fine, for the most part :). 


Not only would this proposal affect on the agriculture industry as a whole, but also our youth's 4H and FFA programs as well. These student led organizations have developed some of the nation's finest leaders over the years would see a decrease in enrollment with this proposal. This is just another step of the way our nation is leaning in the wrong direction.


Well I have had a nice little rant and rave here, but I guess that is what happens when you are passionate about something. PLEASE read more about this proposal and spread the word to your friend's and family. Our nation's future in agriculture is in your hands.

I NEED your help!!

Along with the semester coming to a close I am trying to get ready for all the madness of summer (IPPE rotation, Camping, Float Trip, Egypt.... you get the point)! Well as part of pharmacy school we have to do a 4 week rotation of free work during the summer (that't the IPPE I referred to above). I figure it would probably not be too professional to have a rainbow in my hair (which I have right now).

I currently have/had purple on the bottom layer of my hair. So now I have to decide what I want to do with it.  If you did not know this already, I am not the best person for ideas on hair. I can tell you that I want to keep it dark. My hair is pretty close to my natural color right now, and I like it (or I am used to it). I can also say that I do NOT, let me repeat, do NOT look good with blonde. I tried the whole blonde highlights one time and it was a disaster. I also like having red in my hair and if I ever have time to spend outside my hair naturally turns red, so that is pretty cool. Unfortunately for me, most of my days are either inside studying or inside doing something else. Lucky for me Laker Lover is good at helping me with my hair, but I thought I would get yall's feedback as well. Below are two of her picks, but I would love to see what y'all think I should do.

I think I am leaning more towards the bottom picture, but I am certainly open for options! Feel free to either email me or leave a comment on your ideas!
